WHAT IS A HORMONE?
According to the Greeks, hormone is derived from the Greek word
hormaein meaning "URGING ON", "ROUSED TO ACTION" "TO
EXCITE". According to the medical world, hormones are the chemical
substances produced in one location in the body that travels to another
location to create a response. To the rest of us, hormones are the
most unique, intimate communication system on the planet! They tell
every cell and organ in your body what to do, when to do it and how
to do it -- in other words they get your body moving and grooving
from your head to your toes. In essence, they make your body
work, honey! Now, that's what I call important!
Think of your hormones as the power source for your mind and body,
When you are getting the right kind of hormones in the correct
amounts you feel good all over you become energized and if you
don't get what you need you could eventually suffer complete
power failure - you feel emotionally and physically wiped out.
Since hormones play such a key role in your body's ability to function
properly, it is important to supply your body with hormones that are identical
to the ones it produces naturally. When you put a fake (also called synthetic)
hormone in your body it isn't the same. It's sort of like drinking a diet
coke with a moon pie -- it just ain't the same without RC! (You, southerners
know what I mean.) We need the real thing!
